Clubbell Give & Take Explorations

give and takeIt was a GORGEOUS day here in Jersey today.

And, thus, provided the perfect excuse to get outdoors and get some honest, heavy clubbell training in.

Then again, we don’t really need too much of an excuse to get outside and train, do we???

One thing I like to do in my training is film particular things I’m working on grooving in.

When working on those things I don’t yet fully own, I like to set the camera up, hit record and let her rip.  It always helps to get a fresh perspective on what we’re doing in our personal practice.

And if we’re unable to have a respected and qualified coach give us some feedback, then it would at least serve us well to take a look at our own work in a different frame, a bit removed from the effort.

Often times, what feels right in training, isn’t exactly what’s best for us.  While we’re smart to rely on intuition much of the time, there are many instances when what feels oh-so-good can be oh-so-wrong.

Analyzing video playback of our performance allows us the opportunity to Monday Morning Quaterback things a bit, and ideally, clean things up a bit the next time around.

Analyzing The Clubbell Give & Take

Of recent interest in my training is a little combination routine I currently refer to as the Clubbell Give & Take.

I’m a huge fan of bang-for-your-buck drills, and this clubbell movement certainly fits the bill.

With it’s rotational/anti-rotational elements, limb transfer, shock absorption and redirection, alternating push-pull, high tensegrity tendencies and unorthodox gripping, the Clubbell Give & Take can certainly give you a run for your money in a very short period of time… especially as you start upping the weight.

Being a single clubbell movement, it has the added convenience of making your training session a bit more portable… though lugging your clubbells around can always be though of as a PART of your session 😉

While the video below is not a tutorial on the movement, I do discuss some of the major elements that work within the build of the complex.

    Great website. Where did you get your clubbell and how much. What weight do you recommend .

      Terrence, I order my clubbells through

      Generally speaking, guys are recommended to start with 15s and gals are recommended to start with 10s. However, the weight you’ll use will depend on your overall training goals. What in particular are you looking to get out of your clubbell training?
